Leeds-Lancaster-Morecambe Railway

Wennington Station

Wennington Station
Class 144
leaving for Leeds

Wennington is a small village. Up to 1965 the station was a junction, where trains for Carnforth and Barrow-in-Furness branched off the line to Lancaster and Morecambe, and the trackbed of the old line to Lancaster can be seen clearly from the road bridge just west of the station.

The attractive Midland Railway signal box can also be seen; this is out of use at present, but LASRUG is concerned to see that it is retained for possible future use. Trains to Lancaster and Morecambe now travel via Carnforth. The buildings now consist of brick-built shelters.

Access to the Lancaster-bound platform is by means of the footbridge only. There is a telephone to the signalman for information about train running, and a card phone for other calls. There is ample free car parking.
